Hello, this topic is about Facebook and other social networking websites that are popular today.
What are they to you? Are you a member? How often do you use them? What for?
Do social networking websites like 'fb'...
a) give lots of opportunities (give examples)?
b) just waste your time?
c) cause a lot of problems (what kind of problems)?
And finally, what is the future of social networking websites? What do you reckon, are they going to survive other innovations?
P.S. Did you know that the average (przeciętny) facebook user has 130 friends? (http://mashable.com/2010/07/22/facebook-facts/)
And did you know that there is a name for being addicted (uzależniony) to it? It's called FAD for Facebook Addiction Disorder (zaburzenie!). For this and other interesting facts see

Looking forward to your replies...
I believe that social networking websites are an unlimited source of opportunities. Thanks to them we can get to know people we would never be able to have contact with in any other way. For example I often chat about new games with a guy from Turkey whom I met over the internet. Even though I have never been to his country. But we transmit on the same frequency so we are really good frinds. Additionally social networking websites help us remember about our friends' birthdays and namesdays so we never make them angry by forgetting. The biggest advantage is that it is all for free and we can access it from anywhere. We can have FB on our mobile and mobile is something we always have in our pocket. Which literaly mens that we have all the world in our pocket. Becuse thanks to FB we can simultaneously talk to 60 people from five different continents, 20 different countries and timezones just going to school by bus.
ReplyDeleteTo sum up I think that social networking websites such as FB will continue to exist for ever. They may evolve to meet new requirements but people are so used to them that I can't imagine future without them.
Social networking websites (especially FB) are great. I am not a typical, average user of FB since I have over 900 friends. Most of them live in the US but I also maintain regular contact with my homies from Italy, Greece, France, Spain, Germany, Holland and many other places I have been to, and made friends in. In fact by regular contact I mean everyday basis. I send and receive hundreds of messages from them and this is the greatest advantage of FB. You can keep in touch with countlees numbers of people from all over the globe with one simple device that you always have with you. I personally use my Ipod to do that. My extended network of friends helps me stay up to date with all the interesting stuff. I know everything about parties, discos, shool stuff and much more. My US frinds for example send me info about all the newest horeography, because I am a keen dancer, and all the best modern dencers live and perfom in the US. Having so many interpesonal contacts wouldn't be possible without a thing such as social networking websites.
ReplyDeleteOn the downside social networking websites require a great amount of time. You need to spend hours to keep up with all the messages. Sometimes I just read through them for half an hour to find out there was nothing worth reading. Because some of my friends talk about everything and nothing really.
Another problem I see is superficial retianships. Guys I call my friends on FB are not really friends I can talk about my life problems with. For such things you need somebody made of flesh and bones. Somebody who will sit next to you, hug you and understand you and make you feel better just by being close.
So on balance I believe social networking websites are great. Trying to imagine future without them is like trying to imagine life without oxygen. But on the other hand I believe that we should use them wisely and resonably and try to keep some life - facebook balance. After all it is good to have some options when there is no electricity for 5 hours, insted of just sitting in front of a blank screen crying for help.
I have been using FB for 1 year now. I visit it regularly every day. For me FB is a source of information about what is going on in the world. It provides feedback from my friends, I learn what is on in cinemas and theatres, my friends let me know about parties they organise and many others. Surprisingly it also helps me with school. I am updated with test dates, I can download school materials and a lot more. The biggest advantage of FB is that it is all in one. I have everything in my little laptop on my desk. Just klick a few keys and it's all there. I love it.
ReplyDeleteBut to be honest I agree with the above posts made by Iga and Maciek. I do see some disadvantages of networking websites. One of them is that you make yourself public so all sorts of freeks can bother you and want something from you. Another problem that I believe is more and more visible is that people have a tendency to be too open on FB. They tell everybody about everything even things they would not tell anybody face to face. On FB it is somehow easier, seemingly more anonymous. This way a lot of personal stuff gets public and that may cause problems.
ReplyDeleteTo sum up networking websites can be harmful if used in a wrong way. Byt most of us use it the way they were ment to. And in this context they are great and will last for ever. At least I believe my life would be very difficult if they suddenly disapeared.
I am user of FB for 1 year. I use it to keep in touch with my friends and to meet new. I visit Facebook usually every day, but I don`t always have time. Dad`s often angry at me, because instead of clean up in the room I`m watching pictures of friends, I read the posts. My excuse, "Dad, I have to click 'I like it'":)
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of friends abroad, including in Greece, France, England and Belgium. Rarely I see them, and facebook makes that I often talk with them.
I like taking photos. Sometimes I date to the colleagues in the sessions. I have my own page on Facebook, users can go at it, see my pictures and apply as volunteers for photo sessions.
Facebook and the other social networking websites are really useful. There are a lot of adverts. We may also give notice, if for example we want to sell something, need something/someone or want to tell people about an event.
Social networking websites are great. Maybe using computers it`s unhealthy for our eyes and spine, but it facilitates communication. It`s hard to imagine life, functioning without them.
