E71 - God Bless America?

I AM An American (I AM Poem) by Amanda Jones

I am an American who loves America
I wonder why peolpe hate America
I hear the eagle call for freedom
I see the flag waving in the wind
I want the soldiers to come home safe
I am an American who loves America

I pretend to fly like an eagle
I feel the eagles feather run through my fingers
I touch the white star on the flag
I worry that America will fall
I cry when a soldier dies
I am an American who love America

I understand why we fight for America
I say God bless America
I dream that America stays strong
I try to be all I can be
I am an American who loves America

What does America mean to you? Is it only fast food restaurants and jeans? I hope not. So why do you think people love America? Why were there so many immigrants in the 19th century and why are people still arriving?

For example, how much did you know about The American Dream and "from rags to riches" idea?

  1. America is a very big country. There is a lot of clever stientists and there are the best sportsmen/women in the world in few dyscyplins. In the America are good-paid jobs. In the centre of America is many fast food restaurants, and it`s true when somebody say that America is unhealthy country!!!

  2. That's right, Sylwia. There are many ambitious and successful people in the United States. And if jobs are well-paid, people that do them are motivated too!
But do you think that it's easier to become successful in the US than in Europe?

  3. Americans say that they are proud of their history, of their country but how did the USA became? Imigrants who came to the America killed Indians who lived there. Natives didn't have any chance to defend themselfs. Imigrants had pistols and rifles. Indians had knifes and bows. These natives who survived were detaited in camps, imigrants from Europe had a new country which was named "the USA". So I think that descendentes of imigrants can't be proud of the USA. They say that America "was built on truth and justice" but this is one big lie and these who says that are liars too.

  4. There is some truth in what you're saying, Ernest. But, on the other hand, you can't deny that what the immigrants brought was of great value.
